Early (and sensational) film on marijuana use as a route to heroin addiction. An old juvenile court judge named McKesson, who keeps referring to himself as “we” and “us,” decides he wants to find out about drugs. The judge says this to the camera, but the words he mouths bear absolutely no relation to the words on the soundtrack. He drives to a house where he meets “Phyllis,” a teenager who tells us (also out-of-sync) that when you smoke pot (that’s jive talk for marijuana, folks) “everything speeds up to 100 miles an hour!” She meets “Chuck” (who is a “hype” and a “peddler”) and starts wearing lipstick, becomes a junkie, loses her looks, goes through withdrawal (some good histrionics here) and reforms. Judge McKesson then tells us that the Russians are promoting drug traffic in the United States to “undermine national morale,” and that the only way we can stop the spread of drug use is by using “good sense.” The film concludes with a newspaper headline — “America’s Teen Age Dope ‘Fad’ Ending!” Another unique view into the eternally pessimistic Sid Davis universe. An anti-drug initiative sponsored by the Church of Scientology, offering hope and help to end the worldwide tragedy of drug abuse. Global drug abuse has led to what can inarguably be described as a world awash in blood and human misery. In reply, the Church of Scientology sponsors the largest non-governmental anti-drug information and prevention campaign on Earth. By statistical survey, it has thus far prevented some 500000 young people from recreational drug use… or worse. There is still, however, much more to be done. Thus, the Church of Scientology offers its publications (which neither contain nor advocate any Scientology beliefs) to like-minded anti-drug coalitions, government institutions, civic groups and schools.

Broadcast Date: Saturday 24th January 2008 The controversial drug rehabilitation center Second Chance (which uses Church of Scientologys bizarre rehabilitation methods) abruptly closed on Saturday leaving questions about where its 19 Violent inmates are now located. The City of Albuquerque said when they got word Saturday afternoon that something was happening at the Second Chance facility, they sent police officers to check it out. The officers confirmed all the inmates and personnel at the facility were gone. The city says Second Chance vacated its property on the West Mesa without warning. The rehabilitation program was still housing 19 violent inmates as of Wednesday. On Saturday night, no one was able to say where they are. “I would hope that those individuals were returned to the counties they came from,” Chief Public Safety Officer Pete Dinelli said. The abrupt closing stems from a landlord-tenant dispute between Second Chance and the City of Albuquerque. Pete Dinelli said the rehabilitation center violated the terms of its lease. “They basically had people in there that had no business being there,” he said. “The facility was never designed for violent felons.” City leaders ordered Second Chance out by the end of January. But the dispute appeared to be headed for court until Saturday. Now, the city must decide what to do about the bill they say Second Chance has not paid. “It looks like we may be owed some money. Anywhere between $10000, upwards to $90000 in past …
