Easy Drug Rehabilitation

Question by Dani: How do you deal with someone who has a meth addiction?
We just found out that my brother in law has been a meth addict for eight years now. He is single handedly destroying his family. He lives at home with his mom and has never had a job. She’s a wonderful person but I don’t think she knows how to deal with this. He told her that he doesn’t want to go to rehab, so she won’t send him. She seems to think that he’ll stop on his own, or maybe she’s just resigned to the fact that he’ll never quit. What can we do?

If he’s had this addiction for 8 years I doubt that he’ll ever be able to quit by himself, and if he doesn’t want help, he’s lost. I’d tell her to kick him out unless he is willing to get help. He will only end up destroying his life and hers. She needs to get tough and make him leave and get help before that happens.

I have been nominated by a group of friends to lead a pre-intervention, intervention. We are not writing letters are hauling her to rehab, we just want to let her know that we know what’s going on and we want her to stop. What do I say?

An intervention is a great idea – because it’s less mentally invasive to the addict than throwing them in rehab with strangers.

As the leader of an intervention, you are responsible for the introduction – when you sit her down tell her “We all love you and care about you and we want to help you stop this unhealthy habbit. We’re all going to do whatever we can to support you and keep you focused on recovering and stopping drugs.”
I think most interventions then lead to each person inputting their own personal message to the addict about how they feel about the person – about the times they miss having with the person sober – and instilling the sense of support/concern.
Also, you should, as the leader, think of ways to physically help your friend. Propose to start spending more time with her. Do some recreational activities, watch movies, go to the gym, take up a hobby with all your friends.
Lastly, make sure all of you keep her away from an unhealthy environment and others who will ruin her getting sober. Your friend needs a support system with a plan to remove her from the drug – and that’s the best thing all of you can supply.

Lets say it’s because of a sports injury and you cant play for a while and that’s why you are a screw up, but it’s okay for them to shoot up meth, how do you feel?

mind you, this someone is your mother, and they don’t know that you know about them using. How do you feel?

my boyfriend has been clean for going on 8 months now (he used for 6 years) He goes to NA meetings 3 times a week but does not work the steps and does not have a sponsor.

I never had a sponsor or did the 12 steps,I stopped going after a few months.

I have a friend who’s a heroin addict and wants to get better, but she can’t do it on her own. She wants to get into a drug rehabilitation program, but she can’t afford it. Are there any drug rehabilitation programs out there that offer discounts or offer services for free?

You could probably help her find drug rehabs that offer grant money to people who couldn’t afford their services. I think there are also some rehabilitation centers that ask you to work for them instead of having to pay. You might want to inquire over the health department hotline too, or ask your doctor for recommendations.

I was walking home and these guys were smoking crack or something illegal for sure while they were driving. So next time I see someone driving and smoking illegal stuff should I call the cops?
What can they do if they aren’t near? Can’t the guy get away? Its not like they have a tracking device on him or anything.

Question by worldpeaceplse: If someone is trying to get clean and sober and keeps using, but always wants my help, what do I do?
A friend habitually drinks after around thirty days clean and sober, but wants to get help from me and does not want me to give up on them. Every time there is a relapse there is guilt and shame, but a week later wants to continue to try. I do not know what to do, and I am growing weary of this situation. They could die from late stage alcoholism, but cannot go into in-patient rehabilitation, due to circumstances. I have been there for them and also in recovery. What should I do that will be most effective that might click?

Tell them the truth – that you are sick and tired of the cycle and can’t do anything to help them if they don’t honestly want to help themselves. Say “DUDE- YOU ARE GONNA DIE!!!” and see where that gets ya. Tell them to check into treatment. There’s really nothing you can do – it’s up to him to make those choices in his life.

My friend had a major heart attack(she’s 39 yrs old)-and actually “died” 3 x -she had been smoking crack the night before-she is an addict trying to stay clean thru NA ( like me -only Ive been clean 5 yrs and never did use crack) I dont know a whole lot about how crack affects the body.What would happen if she were to relapse again?
