Question by Papa_Tilt: I need a good book about Drug Rehabilitation for someone in Prison, (preferably christian oriented)?
either self help/drug rehab or just an inspiring book that might make a person exzamine and understand the results of ones actions. Any idea would help!

I have a friend who died due to the adverse effects of heroin. For a time, I was just angry at drugs, angry at the people who were doing drugs. Don’t they know that they’re hurting their loved ones by doing that? But then I realized that my anger won’t do me any good at all. So now I have decided to help out. I would like to become an addiction counselor and I need to ask around at various rehabs about the requirement before I become one.

Wow. I’m glad that you were able to realize that being angry won’t solve anything. I applaud your decision of wanting to become an addiction counselor. I think having experience in doing social work will really help you. I think you have to take up a program or a few courses on addiction counseling before you become qualified, but it varies between drug rehabs, I guess. Anyway, to find them, you can use the links below. You can also browse through the local phone directory or call your local health services department to ask for a list of drug rehab centers near you. Good luck! I really hope you succeed in pursuing that endeavor.

Also what are the signs or effects of someone doing both. Can you find out from the methadone program if someone is also taking other drugs?

Question by simple: What are the long term effects of someone smoking crack?
A friend’s husband started smoking and she is very concerned. He has a lot of responsibilities which he is so far able to attend to but what happens if he continues? Is he really not hooked as he claims – is that possible? He says he only smokes to take the edge off and not to worry. What do you think?

It all depends if they have insurance and what type of insurance. Some will pay for the entire rehab and others will only pay for outpatient treatment. There are free clinics in most states. Call your local hospital and ask to talk to the social worker. They should be able to advise you on free or sliding scale rehab treatment programs. GL

Question by resewllms: Best way to support someone who has just started Narcotics Anonymous.?
My friend has 106 days sober and I care a great GREAT deal about her and I want to be as supportive as I can be. Any advice. She calls me everyday…multiple times a day. She didn’t today. That makes me worry. She goes to N.A. meetings sporadically due to the small city she lives in. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Question by grrlpunk1: Can you get second hand positive tests from being around someone smoking crack?
I had someone tell me they tested positive in a drug drop because they were in the same room as someone that was smoking crack. I can’t find any statistics on this anywhere.. anyone else have any ideas???

If they were in the same room when the crack was being smoked, they may have inhaled some – kind of like second hand smoking.
