you can help them by being detached from all of it and impersonal so you don’t get hurt.Narc Anon is the best bet with regular meetings and sometimes every day attendance until they stay clean. This can take years so be by their side while going to meetings as a support system.

What are some side afects from babies being born by wemon addicted to meth?

Question by Sandy: What are some side afects from babies being born by wemon addicted to meth?

Best answer:

Answer by coquine. ♥
Well, you won’t get to keep the baby that’s for sure.

For a pregnant woman using meth, her 20 minute high can become a 72 hour high for the baby! Consider what’s happening while the little baby is developing. Meth affects the neurological system in addition to the formation of the rest of the body. Some babies that aren’t miscarried from this abuse have been found to have holes in their bellies, missing limbs and skeletal deformities.

Babies that survive the womb can continue to face challenges. Many have sleeping issues. They can become agitated by noise, light or touch. Sometimes they have shorter attention spans and delays in motor skills. Children may also have trouble during feeding like sucking, under eating or over eating. Often times these babies are referred to as “irritable” or “fussy”. Withdrawal symptoms of drug exposure can last until the baby is 8 to 10 months of age, but has been seen in some children as old as 5.

Long term effects are still being studied. So far, this is what has been found in children who were meth exposed in the womb: They are more likely to be hyperactive, have Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), impulse control issues, fits of anger, and growth and development delays.

Q&A: What are some careers in drug rehabilitation?

February 17, 2011 - 3:57 am 1 Comment

Question by : What are some careers in drug rehabilitation?
I’m interested in a career in a drug rehab center, what are some positions?
I know that most people in the field have had substance abuse problems, and while I personally haven’t my dad, his parents, and great-grandfather are all severe alcoholics.

Someone else asked the same question recently:

Over 90% of rehab centers in the US are 12step based, AA/NA. Most of the rest are Narconon, a Scientology based program, or heavily religious. Courts, government agencies, and employee assistance programs mandate 12step rehabs.

Almost everyone who works at a 12step rehab have had their own problems with alcohol and/or drugs and are AA/NA members. I’m sure you don’t want to go out and become an alcoholic or addict to qualify. The pay isn’t very good, and there is a huge turnover due to relapses, but many of the people who work in rehabs have a spotty employment record and some sort of arrest record so it’s the best they can get.

What you can do is take some courses in Human Services and first of all, see if that’s what you really want to do.

In the past twenty years or so, the courts governing 16 states have ruled that AA is “religious in nature” and mandated 12step treatment to be a violation of the Establishment Clause. Hopefully, more to soon follow. What this means for you, is that there are more treatment opportunities that are not 12step based over the coming years.

I’m a mental health care worker, I work for an ACT program (Assertive Community Treatment), primarily with those who have coexisting substance abuse problems. We use Motivational Interviewing with our clients. About half of all people with mental health disorders have substance abuse problems and about half the people with substance abuse issues have a mental illness. Integrated Treatment, treating both problems, is a growing field. It has been found to be counterproductive to use two different treatment methods, especially when they are often at odds with each other.

Feel free to email me.

[EDIT] It isn’t enough to be knowledgeable to work in a 12step rehab, they want people who have personal experience in AA or NA. They want people who will be “spreading the word”.

I’m sorry you haven’t gotten an answer yet.
I’ve got a few friends that have been involved in NA for a while. I unfortunately haven’t attended one of the meetings myself, but I’ve heard each of them talk about the atmosphere of the meetings. They’ve all said that they are very open, welcoming, and accepting. There is no rejection or judging that anyone has to worry about.
Needless to say, they couldn’t tell me about the discussions (the whole “Anonymous” thing and all), but I would imagine they were in the same vein of loving acceptance. Good luck at the meeting and I hope I helped!

Can anyone help me? I need some advice about a loved one who is addicted to narcotics.?

July 26, 2010 - 1:01 pm 12 Comments

Question by blondie7795: Can anyone help me? I need some advice about a loved one who is addicted to narcotics.?
My husband had been addicted to perocet and fentynol suckers. He went to rehab and detoxed but left before his treatment was over. The same day he got home, he went to the same doc that gave him the meds and got on Methadone. He didn’t tell his doc that he had went to rehab and detoxed off of it. He has since started going back to previous behaviors, lying, hiding things, etc. I have suggested that he go back into treatment but he got very angry. Is it usual for someone that has detoxed off of narcotics to go right to using Methadone? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
