Narconon is a Scientology front:

What works? A summary of alcohol treatment research from (the) “Handbook of alcoholism treatment approaches: Effective alternatives”
(Not a complete list, but a good comparison of treatment methods, listed by effectiveness):

There are several great places for support on the web:

SOS:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/sossaveourselves/

SMART:

http://www.smartrecovery.org/

http://smartrecovery.org/SMARTBoard/

WFS:

RR (Rational Recovery):

And with all those options, the majority of people, 80%, quit on their
own.

Personally, I feel that all those groups are great for those who have
been through AA and have had it pounded into their heads that they NEED
a group in order to quit. That’s BS, but AA has been very successful in
getting people to believe that piece of misinformation.

Being around others for support can be a good thing, but ultimately, it
is up to the individual to use or not.

Second Chance New Mexico’s actual ‘success rate’ is negative: here is why

In this video I said “… 32 went back to prison.” I should have said “32%, which is 28 of them, went back to prison.” This video explains why the Scientology front group ‘Second Chance’ does WORSE at keeping prison convicts out of prison than having no interdiction program at all.

“No scientifically well-controlled independent, long-term outcome studies were found that directly and clearly establish the effectiveness of the Narconon program for the treatment of chemical dependency and the more credible evidence establishes Narconon’s program is not effective.” — The Oklahoma State Board of Mental Health All about Scientology and their totally independent Narconon “drug rehab” program run by Scientologists for Scientology. We found out in Michigan that most of the money that we were paying Narconon was laundered back into the ‘Church’ of Scientology.” In the wake of the revelations, a 1980 prison study concluded that “graduates of the Narconon program do not do as well as our [prison] population in general.” Funding for the Narconon program in the prison system was terminated. Why don’t the alternative programs to Alcoholics Anonymous, such as RR, publish their success rate?

January 10, 2010 - 3:33 am 4 Comments

Is it because they have very little success rate, except for those that sell the books?
I did not ask about AA. I asked about the alternatives to AA. Obviously, the last answer is brainwashed by the alternative treatment industry, like someone in AA is brainwashed by the 12 step industry.
