Question by some guy: How to break a heroin and crystal meth addiction?
If I walk down there to ask for help, they always end up injecting me with these horrible depressing drugs, and then keep me locked up for a week. I just got back for the last time. I’ve given up on the system. How can I quit using sheer will power?

you have to replace the addiction with another healthy addiction. Walking, sleeping, running, swimming…

that’s the only way pure will power will work.

I am a mother of a 34yr old son who has stopped taking meth but is suffering from depression , and short attention spans. Does anyone have more info for me about what it feels like once you stop? I am clueless about the withdrawal?

this is normal he should go to the doctor and get put on meds to help out.also going in to a rehab would be good for him to be around people thats going though the samething

Question by Kristy T: can methadone be used in treating crystal meth addiction?
I know someone who has used any type of speed he could get his hands on for the last 10 years.His drug of choice for the last few years has been crystal meth, or ice as it is called. He really wants to just have a normal life now but this addiction has a hold on him that he can’t get loose from. I heard methadone clinics can help with this but I can’t find anything on the net about it.

Yes, methadone has been used successfully to help lean people of crystal meth addictions in the past. However, in many cases it is simply an addiction replacement as the rehab patients now become addicted to methadone.

Question by Hively Mansion: In Indiana, where is the least expensive but most effective place to go to get help with Meth addiction?
My son is a meth addict. He cooks, uses, and sells.
We have no money. Where in Indiana is the best place for him to go to be treated for his methamphetamine addiction? Other locations are ok, I just would not know how to get him to a place far away.

Probably a jail cell would be the least expensive and best treatment. Most treatment places are only able to dry the addicted person out so that he can think with a clear mind as to whether he wants to stay clean or return to the previous life of self destruction. With a clear mind your son can make that choice. If he chooses to stay clean then it’s important that he attends NA meetings weekly or even more often.

My mom has been addicted to meth for 5 years now. It ruined my family and my parents divorced over that and other issues. My boyfriend smoked before he was with me, but stopped when we got together. He did three times (with me knowing) while we were together, but I began to hyper ventilate and almost have an anxiety attack .
Is it normal for children of drug addicted parents to go through such anxiety over a small thing like pot?

um. its like this…….. while im VERY pro-drugs……… if you don’t want him to do it and he does it any way knowing how its going to make you feel then dump the guy. Is it normal? Whats normal anyway? if this is how you react then he should be understanding of that. Like me i cant stand snakes. if i see one i freeze in terror. is that normal? but people know to keep snakes away from me. hope this helps you.

There are CAUSES of the addiction and COMSEQUENCES of such.
There are no known predisposing (genetic or otherwise) factors that will “push” anybody into metamphetamine addiction, as it happens with alcohol, for instance.
However, depressed people, looking for a “high” state, are naturally more prone to seek the stimulant effects of meta-amphetamines….
The effects on the brain, are basically, to mimick the actions of adrenaline and noradrenaline (norepinephrine), resulting in stimulation of the cortex and braistem structures, that give us the alert state (hypervigilant state), with some degree of excitation, insomnia and euphoria (a false sensation of well-being)
As it happens with other amphetamines, when somebody uses it, high blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmias, inflamation of some vessels in the base of the brain (arteritis) and many other will ensue.
If taken (or inhaled, as is the case of crystal) for several days, dependance is the rule, because when you stop taking them, the amount of adrenaline and norepinephrine in the brain, are not capable of giving that “high” state of mind…after depleting the brain of those normal substances, depression (sometimes severe) is the rule…
The difficulty here is, that crystal has to be inhaled to make it effective, and is extremely addictive, because it takes effect in the first two or three inhalations (seconds literally) and the euphoria and excitation are quite substantial with this meta amph….and so are the risks..
