Marijuana has adverse effects on many of the skills for driving a car. Driving while high can lead to car accidents. This is because marijuana affects many skills required for safe driving: alertness, the ability to concentrate, coordination, and reaction time. These effects can last up to 24 hours after smoking marijuana. Marijuana use can make it difficult to judge distances and react to signals and sounds on the road. There is data showing that marijuana can play an important role in crashes. When users combine marijuana with alcohol, as they often do, the hazards of driving can be more severe than with either drug alone. A study of patients in a shock-trauma unit who had been in traffic accidents revealed that 15 percent of those who had been driving a car or motorcycle had been smoking Marijuana, and another 17 percent had both THC and alcohol in their blood. In one study conducted in Memphis, Tennessee, researchers found that, of 150 reckless drivers who were tested for drugs at the arrest scene, 33 percent tested positive for marijuana, and 12 percent tested positive for both marijuana and cocaine. Data also show that while smoking marijuana, people show the same lack of coordination on standard “drunk driver” tests as do people who have had too much to drink. A French study also shows that

Producer: Davis (Sid) Productions. Keywords: Substance abuse: Drugs; Teenagers; California: Los Angeles.Creative Commons license: Public Domain The National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (NHSDA), sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Department of Health and Human Services, has shown that since 1992, the rate of past month marijuana use among youth has more than doubled, going from 3.4 percent in 1992 to 7.1 percent in 1996. Similar trends are evident among both boys and girls; among whites, blacks and Hispanics; and in metropolitan and nonmetropolitan areas (SAMHSA 1997a). Other studies have also shown a doubling of marijuana use between 1992 and 1995 among 8th graders, and significant increases among 10th and 12th graders (NIDA 1997). At the same time, the rate of 12 to 17 year olds perceiving great risk in using marijuana has decreased. In the 1992 NHSDA, 39 percent of youths reported that smoking marijuana once a month is of great risk to people compared with 33 percent in 1996. Similarly, in 1992, 64 percent of youths reported smoking marijuana once or twice a week was of great risk to people compared with 57 percent in 1996 (SAMHSA 1997b). The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has reported that marijuana can be harmful both from immediate effects and damage to health over time. Is this pamphlet accurate on Marijuana?

Question by isildur1: Is this pamphlet accurate on Marijuana?

http://www.narconon.org/media/drug-education-booklet.pdf

I have never heard anything about marijuana burning up vitamins and minerals.

Please use science to back up any answers.

Not exactly. The pamphlet mixes facts with some pretty big assumptions. It implies that marijuana causes cancer by pointing out, correctly, that it contains chemicals that are carcinogenic. What they fail to say is that there is no link between marijuana smoking and lung, neck or head cancer, even among heavy long-term smokers (in the study heavy smokers smoked more than 22,000 times).

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/25/AR2006052501729_pf.html

The article also makes some pretty stupid statements, like “Anyone who takes drugs does it to avoid problems or get rid of some pain or unwanted feelings, including boredom.”
Personally, I do a lot of things to avoid boredom- I watch TV, play basketball, smoke weed, or answer random questions on yahoo answers. I don’t see the big deal. Sure, people can take drugs to cover up deeper emotional issues, but that’s not always the case. Just like alcohol, if you use it responsibly marijuana is dangerous.

“Each time someone gets “high”, they don’t feel quite as high as they did before, and each time they feel a little worse afterwards.” The first part is true, you build up a tolerance to marijuana the more you use it. The second part is not, you do not feel worse after smoking. I dont know where they got that.

As for the part about burning up vitamins, I’m not sure. I have not heard that before but I assume it is related to the fact that marijuana increases your heart rate for a short time. Or maybe that is why you get the “munchies.” Either way I don’t think it is a serious problem or more people would know about it (given the fact that millions of people smoke it).

Hemp anti propaganda drug PSA Marijuana Muscle protein Dog

Our tax dollars help fund stupid commercials like this that lie to us. When is the government going to make a PSA praising the health benefits of the cannabis plant? After all, healthy eating of hemp could positively change the majority of peoples health far more than the smaller percentage of people who might abuse drugs. However our captors spend our money to make sure the cannabis plant of any type stays illegal in the United States. Spread the word and use these stupid PSA’s to spread the truth. MarijuanaMuscle.com
