Question by Saraphina Blue: RE-POST. I think I lost my last post. Question: What happens at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting? My cousin is?
really nervous and I’d like to let her know it will be all right. Does she have to talk in front of everyone the first meeting? Or can she just listen? What is it like? We only know what we have seen on TV.
Thank you so much for your help.

Answer by loves christmas lights It is a meeting place for those who wish to stay busy and not be tempted to do drugs. There are thousands of places nationwide. Each meeting depending on location might be set up a little different. I prefered going with my gf to her AA meetings more than NA. The AA seeemed more lighter. Anyhow, she doesnt have to make a speech, someome might say hi, who are you, please introduce yourself. They can read from books, discuss personal issues, they the people that go can get very close and all be supportive to life issues that they are exploring. Take into account until she goes she doesnt know if shes going where teens are who got busted smoking pot or hard cord older herion ex addicts. If she can go to AA instead, I might suggest going to both kids of meetings and see where its more comforatble to be. The meetings held in large churches seem to be the most entertaining and eaisier to attend. So call around find bigger meetings they might be more easier to go to.
Forget what you see on tv. I have been to 2 dif locations for AA and 1 for NA. The one AA was a huge church, they had almost comedians ex alkys there who told thier life stories and made fun of their mistakes, it was like comedy night and so easy and actually enjoyable to go to. The other AA was at a local meeting hall room, it was more formal but nice. The NA was small like 15 people that night in a small business that let them use the front. So it will depend on what is available in your area. Call the main org listings and ask which if any are larger and more specific for younger persons. No matter what, she can bring as many friends with her as she wishes, so take friends, and make it a pleasant night. Good luck to her, and thank you for being a good friend to her, she needs your help, your pretty awesome for supporting and caring enough for her to seek answers. I hope I helped.
Question by jake: How long does it take for a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program to last?
I want to undergo a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. I want to start over with my life and I think allowing myself to be sober and detoxified is my first step to recovery. I’m worried about the time, though. I want to know how long the program will last because I want to be fully-recovered by the time my sister Sam gets married (which is in 6 weeks). Please help. Thank you.

Answer by wldntulike_2know I suggest you make an appointment with the facility you are most interested in being committed to. They will give you realistic goals and facts about rehab. Every person is different, and it’s not only going to rehab that makes you clean, it’s the desire not to go back to that type of behavior. Really WANTING it is the first and largest step to getting clean. Good Luck!

On April 1st 1994 Kurt Cobain jumped over the wall of the drug rehabilitation centre he was staying at in LA. On April 8th an electrician discovered his body at his home in Seattle. During those seven days Kurt was officially listed as a missing person. This documentary speaks to some of the people who saw or met up with him in that last week. The woman who watched him lick his plate clean, and fail to sign a cheque, in his local restaurant; Duff Mckagan, former bass player of Guns n Roses, who sat next to him on the plane back to Seattle; his drug counsellor from rehab. There are also those who claim to have seen him in those last few days, to have touched the hem of his cloth. And there is Brant, who saw him in a dream the night before he died. It is a film about the generation of a myth. Of the deification of Cobain and the eery silence that fell over Seattle in the days following his death, when his ghost wandered the city.
