My son and his heroin addiction: need help?

April 1, 2011 - 9:57 pm Comments Off

Question by EmMoM: My son and his heroin addiction: need help?
i have looked into many rehabs in order to send my son so that I can help him get off of heroin. I have heard a lot about “drug-free detox” and rehab centers…can anyone let me know of a good one?

Have looked into Narconon…really like it but would like some feed back.

Thanks

A desperate mother

What did doctors prescribe heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamines for?

November 26, 2010 - 12:57 am 2 Comments

Question by avtar: What did doctors prescribe heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamines for?
what were they prescribed for when they were legal prescription drugs?

considering the prescription drug companies’ record of such horrific failures – why do they continue to be in business going about “business as usual”?
they still churn out things like Vioxx, oxycontin etc.

if a restaurant had such a record of death and injury they would have been closed decades ago

heroin was to calm you down, cocaine was a stimulant and amphetamines were for weight loss.

Heroin Video PSA

Public domain public service announcement video from the Partnership for a Drug Free America. Heroin is processed from morphine, a naturally occurring substance extracted from the seedpod of the Asian poppy plant. Heroin usually appears as a white or brown powder. Street names for heroin include “smack,” “H,” “skag,” and “junk.” Other names may refer to types of heroin produced in a specific geographical area, such as “Mexican black tar.” Heroin can be used in a variety of ways, depending on user preference and the purity of the drug. Heroin can be injected into a vein (“mainlining”), injected into a muscle, smoked in a water pipe or standard pipe, mixed in a marijuana joint or regular cigarette, inhaled as smoke through a straw, known as “chasing the dragon,” snorted as powder via the nose. What are its short-term effects? The short-term effects of heroin abuse appear soon after a single dose and disappear in a few hours. After an injection of heroin, the user reports feeling a surge of euphoria (“rush”) accompanied by a warm flushing of the skin, a dry mouth, and heavy extremities. Following this initial euphoria, the user goes “on the nod,” an alternately wakeful and drowsy state. Mental functioning becomes clouded due to the depression of the central nervous system. Other effects included slowed and slurred speech, slow gait, constricted pupils, droopy eyelids, impaired night vision, vomiting, constipation. What are its long-term effects? Question by some guy: How to break a heroin and crystal meth addiction?
If I walk down there to ask for help, they always end up injecting me with these horrible depressing drugs, and then keep me locked up for a week. I just got back for the last time. I’ve given up on the system. How can I quit using sheer will power?

Best answer:

Answer by Jack of All, Master of some.
you have to replace the addiction with another healthy addiction. Walking, sleeping, running, swimming…

that’s the only way pure will power will work.

Snorting Heroin Leads To The Needle / Educational PSA Video

July 26, 2010 - 1:14 pm 25 Comments

Snorting Heroin Leads To The Needle / Educational PSA Video. Public Service Announcement in the public domain. Heroin (Diacetylmorphine) Information: Heroin is the common name of a substance known by the chemical name, diacetylmorphine. Heroin is synthesized from morphine, and morphine is synthesized from opium produced by the plant known by the botanical name Papaver Somniferum (common name opium poppy). Rather than being a different drug, heroin is a method of preparing morphine so that it is absorbed more efficiently by the human body, when injected. If heroin is injected into a human, more morphine will reach the brain than it would if the same amount of morphine were injected. Injecting about 5mg of heroin will produce the same results as injecting 10mg of morphine. Heroin can also be snorted, smoked, or taken orally. However, these other routes of administration are not recommended. They are not as efficient and most of the drug is wasted. If you are not going to inject heroin, an equal amount of morphine will produce similar results. When it is not injected, the heroin is usually totally metabolized by the human body before it can affect the amount of morphine that reaches the brain. So the effects of heroin are nearly the same as an equivalent amount of morphine when snorted, smoked, or taken orally. The time it takes to feel the effects depends on the method of administration. Snorting heroin results in onset within 10-15 minutes. Smoking heroin results in an
