Question by sisifue: Can a meth addicted man ever have a relationship?
I’m a recovering meth addict, but my kids dad just can’t kick it. He’s been in and out of prison, and now he just got released and already using. He isn’t even concerned with being sent to prison becouse his P.O. told him he’ll just have to go to a Soberliving home. I’m trying to stand by him but with disappearences and when he does show up I really don’t want my son to see him. He says that he wants to stop but I don’t see that happening. He beg’s me NOT to leave him, that I’m the only good he has in his life. But yet he rather still get high. To be very sincere, I don’t want to leave becouse then I know I’ll always wonder what if? So if there’s any recoved drug addicts that do have a success story please let me know. I know that as drug addicts everyday is just one more day that we have again been able to say no, but I know that there’s days when we can’t. And that I understand, but I don’t understand him anymore. He’s just doing it because he has money, or he got mad it his mom.

Answer by frr_ls If you are a recovering addict, you need to say goodbye to your kids father for good and if someday he gets off the drugs, good for him, but it should not affect your life any. You need to stay clean and stay away from people who use and old places you used to go. I suggest going to a narcotics anonymous meeting and good luck.

Not just the person useing but the people they drag down with them.
Will I ever forgive myself for not being able to help him.
After years of trying I gave up but my heart still hurts for who he should be and what we could have been if he were strong enough to quite.
I have a new life and am happy but I can’t help wonder if anyone really gets over meth.

I thank the good lord I had the strength and good family by my side to get me clean. It`s been 6 years and Im at the point I know I wont do it again.

I gained about 35 lbs in 3 weeks after I quit. Its been 9 months and I’ve been dieting religiously. I know for certain that my metabolism is seriously screwed up. I am worried that it will never be the same. If anyone has personal experiences with this, please share.

Answer by Nobody Congrats on your sobriety! Weight gain happens even when quitting cigarettes. No personal experience here, but keep taking good care of yourself. It can only be of a benefit to you and everyone around you. I bet you things will get back to normal, even if it takes over a year. Otherwise, ask a doctor.

Answer by Lucien B All substance addictions are very difficult to break, but with the right balance of expert counseling and support many people have made it to recovery. I don’t recommend the person be treated in the local area as associations with the elements that drove the person there in the first place are all to available. I suggest you talk to your family physician and get recommendations.

Answer by ashj_1218 I have been to tons of them…Chemical Dependency is my major. I would suggest trying out a couple locations (if you have the option) to see where you like best. They are really rather varied in their settings and group milieu…you want one that is supportive and positive…not whiny and negative. Given them a shot. In my experience, Al-Anon has been better, mostly because that community is more established where I live. What to expect varies on the type of meeting. Just go and find out.
Question by la flaca: has anyone ever heard of a drug and alcohol rehab called Vista Bay or Narconon?
My son is in a program called Vista Bay and I was wondering if anyone has any info on it. They are a very expensive program and I need to know if they are legit. Thank you!
