How did you get off drugs or crystal meth?

October 29, 2011 - 6:57 pm 8 Comments

Question by The therapist / MSW: How did you get off drugs or crystal meth?
I am a children’s social worker in Orange County California and the great majority of my clients are drug addicts…mostly meth. Basically, we came in and were forced to remove their children from their care in order to protect the children. Their meth addiction led to a horrible deterioration of their lives, placing their kids at great risk.
About 90% of my clients are parents who must overcome their addiction and stay clean from drugs in order reunify with their children.
Do you have any tips in order to say clean?

Also, with meth, are there ways to detect meth use, other than formication (speed bumps), rapid speech, positive drug tests and decaying teeth?

Im also intersted in any random and informative info on meth that you might have to offer.

Thanks.

My daughter is addicted to drugs, it is killing me. I appreciate all of your help, THANK YOU?

Question by gregusedupfully: My daughter is addicted to drugs, it is killing me. I appreciate all of your help, THANK YOU?
My daughter started using codeine when our dentist prescribed it for her. I found out she has been buying it or trading something for it from a person at her school. She is 17 years old, I know that i do not have much time left to help her, she has told me she is moving out the moment she is able too. I think my daughter is addicted to drugs of other types also, i have been finding things in her room that are suspicious, white power on the dresser. little pieces of plastic with burn marks on the ends. broken pieces of metal with burn marks on them, some type of a glass ball with a hose wrapped tightly around it that goes into one side and a frickin butane torch in her room! I do not know what this stuff is, as fast as i throw it away she finds, buys or makes more of it. when I go through her bags she has pills wrapped up in plastic, she tells me they are vitamins but i know they are not. I am thinking about forcing her to have drug tests but i do not want to lose her and i have run out of options. AA did nothing, i think they made the situation worse. teen narconon was a joke. i am so frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly, there is not much you can do for her at that age. You can always be there for her when she needs you. You can keep telling her how much you love her.

If you are able to “force” her to get therapy and treatment (I do not know if you are able to legally) then I would do that. It maybe very hard to do emotionally, but in the long run you will have saved her.

However, that being said, if you are not able to do that, all you can do is let her make her own decisions, even the terribly wrong ones. Hopefully she will get so low, that she will realizes what she is doing but sometimes love of a parent or family is not enough for them.

If you could learn to detach yourself from her actions and just be there for her with unconditional love, when she needs you, that is all you may be able to do.
