It’s a really good thing that your friend has finally decided to get himself treated for his addiction. It’s always tough to deal with something like that. I’m glad that you’re there to help out. Check out the links below. These contain lists of the drug rehabilitation centers near your area. You can also look in the local yellow pages. There’ll surely be a list there. Good luck and may your friend be treated soon!

working in a drug rehabilitation center?

Question by slsmd85: working in a drug rehabilitation center?
how does a person go about working in a drug rehab center? Do you have to have some sort of license or certification? Also what positions are there in rehab centers?

Best answer:

Answer by jannsody
Most counselors that work in drug and alcohol treatment programs have passed a certification examination to become a certified addictions counselor (CAC) and/or certified alcohol and drug counselor (CADC). Even though some training programs may be two years long for an associate degree, I believe that one may need a bachelor’s degree or even a master’s degree (such as in social work) to possibly get a job in the field. In addition to classroom lectures, the person will need extensive clinical experience in the field with an actual patient caseload under supervision before one is eligible to take the examination.

Here is the website for the Association for Addiction Professionals: http://www.naadac.org and can click ‘state affiliates’ as each state may have its own requirements.

Please make sure that the program is accredited within the industry. The aforementioned site should have accredited programs.

For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search ‘counselors’, ‘social workers’ or such.

With schooling, please also steer clear of those online, for-profit schools (may have ‘bricks and mortar’ buildings and may be ‘accredited’) such as penn foster, devry, ITT tech, capella, university of phoenix, kaplan, ashford, walden, argosy, sanford brown, everest, strayer, ashworth, remington, excelsior, colorado tech and others as they are merely out to ‘make a profit’ (and course credits may Not transfer): http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.

What if drug rehabilitation programs only focused on behavior and not attitudes?

Would the behaviors change if the attitudes and misperceptions behind them weren’t addressed?

Leave behavior enforcement for the government (which is what they should address, rather than such a monstrosity trying to rehabilitate all of society), and let the counselors, pastors, and personal organizations/communities address the attitude.

Drug Addiction Consequences- Narconon

Narconon Deals with Drug Addiction Consequences. States Waste Billions Dealing with Consequences of Addiction, CASA Study Says Narconon Warns that the vast majority of the estimated 7.7 billion in substance-abuse related spending by governments on substance-abuse problems went to deal with the consequences of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, not treatment and prevention, according to a new report from the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University. The report, titled, “Shoveling Up II: The Impact of Substance Abuse on Federal, State and Local Budgets,” found that 95 percent of the 3.9 billion spent by the federal government and states went to paying for the societal and personal damage caused by alcohol and other drug use; the calculation included crime, health care costs, child abuse, domestic violence, homelessness and other consequences of tobacco, alcohol and illegal and prescription drug abuse and addiction. Narconon Just 1.9 percent went to treatment and prevention, while 0.4 percent was spent on research, 1.4 percent went towards taxation and regulation, and 0.7 percent went to interdiction. “Such upside-down-cake public policy is unconscionable,” said Joseph A. Califano, Jr., CASA’s founder and chairman. “It’s past time for this fiscal and human waste to end.” CASA estimated that the federal government spent 8.2 billion on substance-abuse related issues in 2005, while states spent 5.8 billion and local
