I am in a really tight situation and am considering just getting a public defender becuase i cannot afford a lawyer. At the preliminary they told me i prob could qualify for a public defender, but all of my friends are highly advising against it. They say that public defenders dont fight for you and that they dont care. They just work for the state and cater to the prosecuters interests more than to yours. Is this true?
