narcotics anonymous has no reference to any specific drug in its literature. we say we are powerless over our addiction, meaning the disease of addiction, instead of drugs, which are but a symptom of our disease. we recognize that no matter what drugs we did, we all have the same disease, and it is this identification that allows us to have hope for recovery. i can remember the day i realized that if i have the same disease as other members, i can stay clean with their recovery too.

Susan Timberlake on drug use, sex work, and how different UN agencies focus on human rights

At theUnited Nations High Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS in 2006, world leaders reaffirmed that the full realization of all human rights and fundamental freedoms for all is an essential element in the global response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Yet, 25 years into the AIDS epidemic, the essential element remains the missing piece in the fight against AIDS. International organizations produced the joint statement: “Human Rights and HIV/AIDS Now More Than Ever – 10 Reasons Why Human Rights Should Occupy the Center of the Global AIDS Struggle”. This joint statement, endorsed by over 650 organizations and networks worldwide, affirms that, now more than ever, human rights should occupy the center of the global struggle against HIV and AIDS. The Hungarian Civil Liberties Union produced a series of short films to help explain why human rights is so important, and to call organizations worldwide to join the call and endorse the joint statement at: www.HIVhumanrightsnow.org

How can I look up a DWI from about 20 years ago, that happened in a different state?

January 11, 2010 - 11:38 am 1 Comment

I would like to get more information about a DWI (driving while intoxicated) that occured about 20 years ago. It was also in a different state than the one I live in, so I can’t go down to the police office or whatever and ask them.

It was one of my immediate family members that got arrested, if it makes a difference.
