Question by Dani: How do you deal with someone who has a meth addiction?
We just found out that my brother in law has been a meth addict for eight years now. He is single handedly destroying his family. He lives at home with his mom and has never had a job. She’s a wonderful person but I don’t think she knows how to deal with this. He told her that he doesn’t want to go to rehab, so she won’t send him. She seems to think that he’ll stop on his own, or maybe she’s just resigned to the fact that he’ll never quit. What can we do?

If he’s had this addiction for 8 years I doubt that he’ll ever be able to quit by himself, and if he doesn’t want help, he’s lost. I’d tell her to kick him out unless he is willing to get help. He will only end up destroying his life and hers. She needs to get tough and make him leave and get help before that happens.

Flexible New Deal

The government plans to identify possible problem drug users in the following way. if you make a new claim for employment and support allowance (esa), your drug problem will most likely be identified during your work focused health-related assessment. if you are making a claim for jobseekers allowance (jsa) and a jobcenter plus adviser suspects that you have a drug problem, they can ask you whether current or recent use of crack cocaine or heroin is stopping you from working. The government may bring in legislation so that jobcentre plus can identify problem drug users by getting data from criminal justice agencies. The data would include details of people who have left prison, and people who have been given a drug rehabilitation requirement by the courts. jobcentre plus would safeguard the shared information and only use it in connection with benefits and the new support programme. Health assessment. if the government (jobcentre plus) thinks you could be a problem drug user, you will be referred for a health assessment with a healthcare professional. The healthcare professional will decide weather you have a heroin or crack cocaine problem, and whether you should go on the new programme for problem drug users. Treatment Allowance. while you are on the support programme, you will receive a treatment Allowance instead of esa or jsa. However, your treatment Allowance will still be under either the esa or the jsa framework. if you are suffering from a drug problem or alcohol
