Question by Vanity: Does anyone know how NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meetings work?
I’m going to an NA meeting today with one of my friends, because I’ve had the urge to want to continue drug use. I was a coked out heroin addict all 2008, and part of 2009, and I’m terrified to go to these meetings. I feel like it’s all set up whereas the cops are going to bust in and arrest everyone there.
How do these meetings work??

They work just like AA meetings. No cops. Relax.

Question by Ambivalence: Why does anyone start smoking crack?
I can understand why a person would be attracted to certain recreational drugs that are glamourized to some extent, like cigarettes or heroin. I’m not saying that makes them a good idea, but I can understand why. But why start smoking crack? Doesn’t everybody pretty much make fun of crackheads?

Question by Chris: Has anyone with a spouse addicted to meth, been able to get him / her to stop denying and admit it?

Answer by Joe from WI
I knew people who might beat me (violence) if I dared mention it. It is a nasty drug. The only hope for an addict is for them to make it one year without using it. Which usually involves a stay at a facility. Meth can devour a person’s body and facial features in less than 3 years. I know someone who knew a meth addict who had them arrested for possession. The police gave him literature for treatment, and this got him into a facility. In my opinion it was the only thing that would work.

Hunh; have they considered Teen Challenge? Despite their name, they take people of all ages. They also have an exceptionally high cure rate.

Question by i_need_answers_please!: Has anyone ever recovered from meth addiction?
If you have, how did you do it? Can anyone recommend any residential programs in the Sacramento area? Is there anything a family member can do?
Best answer:
Answer by Lucien B
All substance addictions are very difficult to break, but with the right balance of expert counseling and support many people have made it to recovery. I don’t recommend the person be treated in the local area as associations with the elements that drove the person there in the first place are all to available. I suggest you talk to your family physician and get recommendations.

Question by Chris: Has anyone experienced their spouse becoming addicted to meth? Did you confront them, and did they admit it?
I’m most interested in those spouses experience whom did and do not do meth themselves…but have spouses that became addicted. I would appreciate your story about how you found out, if you confronted them, and/or if they ever admitted it, asked for help, and/or recovered?
