i have an upcoming function that i am in charge of putting together & one of the things i had to do is photograph one of the artists who is performing at this function. i didnt tell my boyfriend about it because i wanted to keep it to myself so i can focus because its alot of work & i didnt feel like answering questions or hearing “comments”. well sunday i told him i had to go to a club to photograph an artist & friend of mine. he asked me if i was taking naked pictures of someone, i told him no. i told him the guy sings. i also told him i didnt want him to go IN the club with me because the people in the club drink alcohol & he is clean & sober now & involved in the Narcotics Anonymous program. i told him he can pick me up when i’m done & i told him what time the show starts & ends. but things didnt go that way because the show started 2 hours late. i was texting him the whole time letting him know what was going on. i even asked him if he’d feel comfortable coming in the club so that we’re together but he told me “no way”. next thing i know, outta nowhere, he showed up in the club. i ran to him & took him to where i was sitting, i was happy to see him. the first thing he noticed was that my coat & bag was resting on a chair with the artist’s coat, & right away he wanted to know “whose stuff is that”. then he got mad because he couldnt sit down because “my coat was with the artists coat on the chair”. then he was watching the performers on stage & seemed enlightened by it but kept telling me he had to leave, because he’s not comfortable around a drinking crowd. Well I told him that what kind of crowd it was, he already knew that, so why did he decide to come into the club?? I asked him to relax and to please stay, because I didnt want him to leave but he left anyway. I winded up there till well after 12:30 midnight, and when he picked me up he was uptight & jealous & making comments that suggested “i go be with that guy” & a whole bunch of other jealous insecure stuff that just made the rest of the night worse. i know we wanted to be together that night but i had business to take care of & it was out of my control that things did not go according to the timeframe as we planned. So in the end the night ended with us breaking up & me cursing him out & telling him how STUPID he was, then the focus got shifted onto ME as if I did something wrong. I just didnt know how to handle him – he was acting really sickening & wasnt making things no better. Shouldnt he had’ve just sat down, relaxed, watched the show while i did my work & then we leave together? why did he even come in the club & then leave? and what was I supposed to do?

Because I was in both programs, and the NA group never had anything good to say about AA. In fact, it was frowned upon if your sponsor was from AA!

Just wonder because is seams like they are required to rely on a higher power. What if you don’t know/believe in a god?

I am required to attend NA or AA meetings as part of my Suboxone treatment and the program that I am in. AA meetings are almost endless, there are so many everywhere, though NA meetings around here are much harder to come by and a lot farther away to get to. Being a person who has an opiate addiction I feel out of place at AA meetings, especially when I introduce myself since I can’t truly say “Hello, my name is Eric and I’m an alcoholic.” I have heard that members get offended by people who attend who do not truly have an alcohol problem. Is this true and what should I say at that point in the meeting and one must say that they are an alcoholic? Also I was wondering if there are any official narcotics anonymous on-line groups or communities that I can join and take part with other members? Thanks for your help and any other information you can provide would be helpful!
I am 24 and live in Ohio for the one who asked. I do not mind saying I have a problem it is just not an alcohol problem. I must go to the meetings and get the paper signed in order to get my prescription, I just don’t want to have to lie when I am at a meeting. I respect everyone there and can indentify with what they are saying so should I just lie? I wouldn’t be asking if NA meetings were more common.

You have to say you are an alcoholic. First step is admit you have a problem. I have been to a couple of meetings and its not that hard. Every one there is nice to you they dont judge. Its not that hard I have been to AA and NA meeting and they help you out a lot. How old are you? and were do you live at?
