If they’re really committed to it, yes, it’s possible. Realistically speaking: probably not.

Question by Jenniferr: Is is possible for my meth addicted husband to find sobriety after 10 years of use?
We’ve been married for over 10 years and it’s been rough…He’s what I call a functioning addict….He works, cares for the kids, loves me, no heated arguements (only over his use)and doesn’t disappear for days….only hours… He is constantly trying to kick the addiction but it hasn’t worked. However, after 10 years of the lies and mistrust that go along w/ addiction, I’m tired…I cover up and lie for him…I hide the truth from everyone, the kids included. I walk on eggshells waiting to find something that proves once again that he is still using even after he says he’s not…..Please tell me, is it possible for a over 10 year meth addict to finally reach sobriety or is it hopeless…At this point, I have asked him to leave but struggle w/ it because of the kids and also because we have a good relationship with no arguements except of course the “drug arguement”… I’m reading this over and it sounds so pathetic but someone tell me, is there hope for his sobriety??

Question by Destiny: Should I leave my meth/crack addicted husband?
My husband & I have been married 10 years and have 2 kids. He has been addicted to meth/crack/pot for 7 years, he has lost two really good jobs, been to jail and has been verbally and physically abusive ex. strangling me a couple of times hitting and thrown knives at me. I have tried marriage counceling. He has had court ordered drug treatment, anger management, NA and AA. I have always been faithful and feel I have never done anything wrong. I kicked him out once for 6 months and I left him again for 7 months, Each time he seems to straighten up for a while and a few months later I find his dope again, He has shattered my dream of having the traditional family yet I have been dogged on by so many people for “giving up on him” I’m smart enough to know that this is unsafe for me and my kids but I can’t believe there are people out their saying I’m horrible for not wanting to stick with him. Why would they say that? Doesn’t anyone else believe that there are some deal breakers?

Question by : im addicted to meth and my life is horrible no amount of pain prison rehab nothing works?
Best answer:
Answer by Dr Dave
People turn to drugs initially because there is some emptiness in their life. Something is missing, whether it’s the feeling of being loved by their parents, or something else. Initially, drugs let you “live,” they make you feel alive again. But once your addicted, they take over your life. You need to fix what’s missing. This is going to take some therapy with a good psychologist. I know its probably taken a lot for your to come on here and post this question and I’m proud of you for doing it. Not many people are ready to give up drugs and have a better life. Try working with a psychologist and see how it goes. If you don’t like the first one, find another one. Also find a support group. Do it one day at a time. It’s not easy, but its very doable. Good luck, let me know how you’re doing in the future. Feel free to email me at anytime
