Video Clip: Big Bucks, Big Pharma Documentary
Visit secure.mef.tv for more information. Newly released by the Media Education Foundation, “Big Bucks, Big Pharma” pulls back the curtain on the multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical industry to expose the insidious ways that illness is used, manipulated, and in some instances created, for capital gain. Focusing on the industry’s marketing practices, media scholars and health professionals help viewers understand the ways in which direct-to-consumer (DTC) pharmaceutical advertising glamorizes and normalizes the use of prescription medication, and works in tandem with promotion to doctors. Combined, these industry practices shape how both patients and doctors understand and relate to disease and treatment. Ultimately, Big Bucks, Big Pharma challenges us to ask important questions about the consequences of relying on a for-profit industry for our health and well-being. Featuring interviews with Dr. Marcia Angell (Dept. of Social Medicine, Harvard Medical School; Former Editor New England Journal of Medicine), Dr. Bob Goodman (Columbia University Medical Center; Founder, No Free Lunch), Gene Carbona (Former Pharmaceutical Industry Insider and Current Executive Director of Sales, The Medical Letter), Katharine Greider (Journalist; Author, The Big Fix: How the Pharmaceutical Industry Rips Off American Consumers,), Dr. Elizabeth Preston (Dept. of Communication, Westfield State College), and Dr. Larry Sasich (Public Citizen Health Research Group). I never ask my Dr. to give me one of the newer meds. Once I was subscribed Cellebrex and broke out in a terrible rash all over my arms. It was bad. I’d rather have the older more proven meds.

@zegatone yeah, we would’nt want kids to get in touch with a creative side they didnt know they had. Or have any spiritual or uplifting moods, just let them rot in the schools so later on in life they could get a good job and be miserable. I’d rather live like a Native American anyways

well i do agree that people has the right to make decisions, but just as we do not let kids drive or drink alcohol, we should not freely allow kids use mind-altering drugs.
my problem is not with adults using it, or minors under doctors supervision. my problem is simply letting our kids act freely on any activity that may harm them.
some people, because of genetics, can get harmed with certain drugs
adults in their house, and if they harm no other, let them be

but you have to understand, it was the PEOPLES OWN DECISION to do that, and i see it alot. People think it looks cool like ‘yeah im a stoner school sucks i get high everyday’ its the people who choose to drop out and fall into that lifestyle

if it is legalized it would not create more problems than alcohol does, but it will not send so many people to jail for minor offenses.
we must educate our kids about the use of legal and illegal drugs, and we must give them a dignified life so that they have less reason to look for emotional pain relieve in any kind of drugs
now, some people, because of genetics, illnesses or other reasons may someitmes, or FOR LIFE, resort to either kind of drugs. Therefore, some regulation should take place

i do not have a problem with people using pot,
cigarettes and alcohol get more people sick or killed than pot does
my point was that kids using pot normally will get into deeper trouble than not using it, the same is true for alcohol. but we do not let our kids drink
the use of marijuana for medical purposes should not be discouraged

@zegatone .. But you’ll never see an add for pot on the television saying this…… Have you are one of your loved ones died from using this medication ? But I’ve seen it for every other drug that’s out there. Trust me on this also, some of the mood stabilizing or anti-depressants that a shrink would try to give those children would end up killing them faster than anything they’ve ever tried before. If they don’t commit suicide from a violent reaction their liver and kidneys will fail in 10yrs.

of course, those are symptoms of other problems, and the problems must be addresses to eliminate the symptoms
smoking cigarretes and drinking alcohol brings certain pleasure and relief, but have consequences
smoking pot creates more problems that it solves as well. if to be used as medication, it must be regulated as other medicines are, for many reasons, one of it being that every bunch does not have the same qualities. and in many instances, it leads to heavier drugs

@zegatone .. If you think kids who steal for pot is bad, thank god you’re not dealing with kids that are stealing for Oxycontin and Methadone. You’re entire house would be emptied by now. Highly likely they were on a destructive path before ever touching pot. It may be a catalyst to rebellion, but what honestly isn’t to dipshit teenagers ?

i am trying to help a group of young guys who are using marijuana, part of their problems is that they have quit school, take money or things form their families to but it, two of them work, part time,
and their lives evolve around hoe to get money to get high
two of them went to jail for carrying a gun and other things
marijuana has its benefits, just as many other plants, but its indiscriminatory use is very harmful
poison is natural and useful, but deadly as well

marijuana was a method used in native practices years ago to treat many things. Also, it’s currently used to ease pain and reduce nausea among cancer and AIDS patients.

The rats are jumping ship.
CHEMRISK – a research company hired by the Corn Refiners has recently taken down it’s YouTube page.
The removal was in response to negative public perception resulting from the high-fructose corn syrup ad campaign. Apparently it has become a liability to defend the sweetener.
See the last remaining ChemRisk video at CornRefinersAssoc on YouTube.

Just smoke some Bud and chill, its the best natural medicine, if it were legalised, pharmacy corporations would go bankrupt… Thats why they advertise propaganda depicting marijuana as a drug which causes mental illness, they would lose out big time if it were legalised..

Yeah smoke weed why not? we have more receptors in our bodies designed for weed use than any other spunkbreath.
