Prescription Drugs: Killing More Than Pain; Sponsor: Multijurisdictional Counterdrug Task Force Training (MCTFT)/CADCA; Program Description: When America entered the new millennium, it entered a new era in the world of drug abuse. From the streets of the cities to the secluded family homes in the suburbs, prescription drug abuse is a problem that’s spilling out of pill bottles and into the lives of millions all across our country. Back in 2000, about 1.5 million Americans abused prescription drugs. Two years later, that number quadrupled — to more than six million. That’s a 400% increase. Thousands of people die each year because they overdose on prescription medications. Many abusers think they’re an FDA-approved high, while others become addicted after using powerful painkillers to treat legitimate pain. During this broadcast, learn how abusers are getting their drugs and how law enforcement, doctors, and pharmacists are fighting the problem. Hear from recovering addicts, treatment providers, doctors, robbery victims and more. Prescription drugs kill much more than pain. Program Objectives: Learn what prescription drugs are abused. Learn how doctors can better treat pain. See what would help pharmacists spot forged and altered prescriptions See what tactics work for law enforcement Find out what drug companies are doing Know where to go for help. Prescription drugs, a category of psychotherapeutics that comprises prescription-type pain relievers, tranquilizers

This is normal with addiction. Before I cut down and put in some will power to quit, I was going to the local pharmacy to get the OTC codeine and paracetamol it was lower in dose, but I would do “Cold water extraction” to get all the codeine out of the pill ,and get my high

I’ve since stopped. If your girlfriend tells the doctor she needs him to support her cut down her prescription weekly, she WILL quit! I am already on my way to quitting

I was addicted to alcohol from the age of 15 to 26 , I gave up alcohol cold turkey, it was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Then one day after a headache my mother offered me some Codeine Phosphate (prescription Opiate) , I was hooked. I take around 140 pills a month, my prescriptions are monitored by my doctor. I was on 200 a month at first! so I’ve cut back 60 pills so far :D

and with my doctors support, he cuts the pills down every week to help me cut down and quit.

In pharmacies they should have boxes of “Placebo’s” “Fake drugs” that resemble the ones the robbers want, that way , the thief robbing the pharmacy get’s away with nothing at all :D

In the UK you can only register at ONE doctors surgery, you cannot go to different ones to get multiple prescriptions as you have an NHS (Health/Gov Number) and you are only allowed to register with one doctor.

If you want to transfer to another surgery you have to show ID and all your health notes go to the new surgery so there’s no way you can go from doctor to doctor picking up prescriptions.

The US needs to implement this system

“Most people, and almost all medical doctors, still believe that prescription drugs are based in good science, and that pharmaceutical companies offer them in good faith. The truth, however, is not difficult to uncover: Many top selling prescription drugs are useless; some even cause the disease for which they are prescribed.” — “The Great Prescription Drug Hoax” by By Owen R. Fonorow

I have stayed away from ANY pharma..i see how it ruins lives, creates addicts, pulls ppl into a life cycle of drug use. Several of my childhood friends have died so that their misery stopped. The fact IS, most of that misery was caused by the very drugs they were LEGALLY prescribed. It’s a cycle of companies profit, government lobbyists & healthcare /medical profiteering.STAY AWAY!The products you put in your body can kill you.

To be honest, I think people who abuse prescription drugs are dumbasses. Don’t blame the medical system for somebody’s abuse of the drug. Stop placing blame where blame shouldn’t be placed. The real problem is with the idiotic reasoning and irrational tendencies of the public. Come on, you really think taking a shitload of drugs is good for you? No! You have to be a fucking idiot to start abusing prescription drugs.

If I have cerebral palsy at 24 years old and am in pain, why is it scorned upon because of people using drugs foolishly? I mean no disrespect or harm, and I apologize for those who have lost loved ones, but I will not stop using my 5mg percocets. I am not ashamed and honestly have no plan on stopping anytime soon. I’m also a chemist and understand all pharmokinetics and pharmacology notes on my meds. Again, I am sorry for your losses, but if used correctly, there is no harm.

@pwg1126 i feel your pain. i remember being young and perscribed to ritilin. the effects were so pleasurable i remember nights finishing a whole bottle snorting without even getting any more high The come down that followed left me without a care if i died or not. I think ritilin just exposes children to an addictive side that doesnt need to be exposed yet, these doctors income is over 75% from perscriptions

I was on vicodin for 13 years 15 to 20 a day. I tried a few times to get off of it but the withdraws were to painful. Didn’t want to go to rehab because that will follow you around for the rest of your life. So what I did was turn to the lord and got serious about it. When I gave it to him the only withdraw I had was couldn’t sleep very good for awhile but I will take that anyday. Jesus is the way there’s nothing on this earth that can take your withdraws away right away like Jesus grace try it

Update: Palladone has been taken off the market (in the USA, that is).
In all honesty, it is rare for someone with true AD/HD to be taking 60 (sixty) stimulant pills–or anyone for that matter–although again (as someone mentioned), someone without the condition could fake it, go to different doctor, or get a bunch from multiple friends (ILLICITLY and DANGEROUSLY) and then fake the condition and become “addicted” (dependent).
