what are the most commonly prescribed barbiturates?

i know they dont get prescribed as much ever since benzodiazapines came out.

but barbiturates are still around somewhat.

    phenobarbital. There are many others. But, as you said with the benzodiazepines and other sedatives they just aren’t used much. Benzos are much safer.

    Agreed with first author. Phenobarb is still used in some substance rehab centers.

    Also, in nuclear medicine, if a HIDA scan (biliary scintigraphy) is ordered on a neonate to dianose biliary atresia, we like to have the patient on phenobarbital for about 5 days prior to the test to increase the biosynthesis of bile.
